USMNT attacker Tim Weah emerged from the bench to settle Juventus’s 2-0 win over Milan and boost his club’s hopes of Champions League qualification.
The 24-year-old scored the second of two goals after the break that ensured three points for the hosts in the Italian top flight’s oldest and most played derby.
Weah’s fifth goal in Serie A this season came when the substitute chased after a Khephren Thuram pass on 64 minutes. Weah evaded the attention of Milan defender Fikayo Tomori and dragged a low finish into the far corner.
He had been denied from close range five minutes earlier by Milan goalkeeper Tim Maignan.
Winger Samuel Mbangula had given Juventus the lead shortly before the hour mark.
The victory moves Thiago Motta’s side into fourth place, one point ahead of Lazio who travel to Verona on Sunday.
Milan missed their talismanic American Christian Pulisic at the Allianz Stadium, with the 26-year-old unable to feature due to a calf issue sustained during their win against Como on Tuesday.
There was still an American in the Rossoneri’s ranks, though, with Yunus Musah starting the game and creating four chances for Milan.
Juventus fielded two USMNT stars for their win, with Weston McKennie making his 15th appearance of the season in the league for the Turin outfit.
Milan are now eight and seven points off the top four.
