Sharks win 2024 NHL Draft Lottery, chance to draft Macklin Celebrini with No. 1 pick


The San Jose Sharks are the winners of the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery, giving them the first crack at drafting top prospect Macklin Celebrini during next month’s NHL Draft in Las Vegas. It is the first time they’ve had the first-overall pick. They’ve had the second-overall pick on three different occasions.

San Jose entered the day with the highest odds of winning the lottery at 25.5 percent after ending the NHL season with the league’s worst record at 16-41-7. Chicago had the second-highest at 13.5 percent while Anaheim’s chances were at 11.5 percent.

Celebrini is seen as the consensus No. 1 prospect available. The 17-year-old center won the NCAA’s Hobey Baker Award in his freshman season with Boston University, given to the best men’s collegiate hockey player and became the youngest player ever to win the honor. Celebrini scored 32 goals and 64 points in 38 games played with BU.
