Nuno Espirito Santo says he trusts his Nottingham Forest players to behave responsibly after insisting the group that went on a trip to the Alps have assured him that they did not go skiing.
Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, Elliot Anderson and Anthony Elanga were pictured in social media posts enjoying a trip to ski resort Val d’Isere in France over the new year.
Nuno admits he was initially concerned when he heard about the trip, but was reassured after speaking with his players on their return and is satisfied that they did not risk injury by skiing.
“They did not ski. They are healthy. When I saw the news, I was worried. But I trust them, because they are responsible boys,” said Nuno. “They enjoyed themselves with their partners. They are healthy. I did not know (they were going there). But it is about trusting them.
“I asked them when they got back if they had skied. Unless there is a photograph or a (social media) post that comes that says something else…
“They are okay. Things can happen. You can fall off a ladder at home. Life is to be enjoyed.”
Val d’Isere is famed for Face de Bellevarde, a black-rated piste (an advanced ski run), and for the Grande Motte glacier, known for the quality of its summer ski runs. However, it is also renowned for its apres-ski options, with numerous restaurants and bars in and around the resort.
Nuno was happy that his players took the opportunity to bond after being given time off following the 2-0 win at Everton — which was their fifth consecutive Premier League win — with an eight-day gap before they return to action at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
“We had a good break. We had an opportunity to give the players the time to go out. It is good. They did so well,” the Forest head coach added.
Murillo and Callum Hudson-Odoi are both expected to be fit to face Wolves, after missing the Everton game, with the Brazilian defender injured in the warm-up at Goodison Park.
Forest’s only long-term injuries are Danilo — who is back in training following the broken leg he suffered on the opening day against Bournemouth — and Ibrahim Sangare, who is still training individually, but is almost ready to scale up his work, as he recovers from a hamstring issue.
