Mason Greenwood to be included in EA Sports FC 24

Mason Greenwood will be included in EA Sports FC 24 when the game is released later this year.

Greenwood had been subject to an internal investigation from Manchester United since February this year when the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control. He denied all the alleged offences.

The 21-year-old was removed from FIFA 22 following his initial arrest on January 30, 2022.

But Greenwood, who moved on loan to Spanish side Getafe from United on the final day of the summer transfer window, is now set to be included in the game as he continues his preparations over a return to football.

A statement from EA Sports read: “EA Sports FC 24 authentically reflects the active rosters of teams and clubs in the real world of football. As he is now part of an active roster with Getafe CF, Mason Greenwood will be included in FC 24.”

Greenwood, however, will not appear in Ultimate Team – a popular feature in the game – when EA Sports FC 24 is released on September 29.

“As Greenwood was not part of an active roster at the time of our cut-off date for final team and player data, he will not appear in Ultimate Team at launch,” the statement added.

The exclusion from Ultimate Team also applies to other players who were not included or were free agents at the cut-off date for final team and player data to be added to the game.

There are no plans to patch Greenwood into Ultimate Team at this time while he will not feature in the FC Mobile or FC Online versions of the game as Getafe are also not part of those.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that the makers of Football Manager plan to reinstate Greenwood into their game.

Sports Interactive said: “Players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the first opportunity.

“When suspensions or playing restrictions are lifted, the player or official will be reinstated in-game at the next scheduled update.”

Football Manager 24 is set to be released on November 6.

Following United’s announcement on August 21 that they had shelved their idea of reintegrating the forward into the first-team squad, Greenwood became eligible for transfer. They subsequently engaged in efforts with the player to locate a new club to restart his career before he joined Getafe on September 1.

He could make his debut on Sunday against Osasuna.
