  • Ana María and the Fox

Ana María and the Fox by Liana De la Rosa

RECOMMENDED: Ana María and the Fox by Liana De la Rosa is $1.99! Carrie and Shana reviewed this book and gave it an A-. Shana says,

I started Ana María and the Fox when I needed a book to distract me, and it was perfect for that purpose. I love historical romances with sparkling dialogue and characters getting into good trouble—this book has both. I burned through it quickly and I’m ready for a sequel!

Shana also mentioned this book in a recent Rec League for books with no third-act breakups! It has a 3.64-average on StoryGraph, with readers saying it’s got strong character development. Have you read this one?

A  marriage of convenience between a Mexican heiress and a shrewd London politician makes for a scandalous Victorian bargain.

Ana María Luna Valdés has strived to be the perfect daughter, the perfect niece, and the perfect representative of the powerful Luna familia. So, when Ana María is secretly sent to London with her sisters to seek refuge during the French occupation of Mexico, she experiences her first taste of freedom far from the judgmental eyes of her domineering father. If only she could ignore the piercing looks she receives across ballroom floors from the austere Mr. Fox.

Gideon Fox elevated himself from the London gutters by chasing his burning desire for more: more opportunities, more choices. For everyone. Now as a member of Parliament, Gideon’s on the cusp of securing the votes he needs to put forth a measure to abolish the Atlantic slave trade once and for all–a cause that is close to his heart as the grandson of a formerly enslaved woman. The charmingly vexing Ana María is a distraction he must ignore.

But when Ana María finds herself in the crosshairs of a nefarious nobleman with his own political agenda, Gideon knows he must offer his hand as protection…but will this Mexican heiress win his heart as well?

  • Romancing the Duke

Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDED: Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in the Castles Ever After historical romance series.

Readers loved the quirky heroine, though some warn to keep an open mind because the story could get a little silly at times. It currently has 4-star rating on GR. Sarah reviewed it and gave it a B+:

I think this is a truly unique historical that will appeal to readers who aren’t often historical fans. This story captures both a distant time period, and the present day, reflecting it in the characters – with a story and a parallel set of references beside it that grow together until the meaning of both is intertwined and layered into something I haven’t read before. This is a romance that is also a little bit about the community around romance, and all the many, many people who believe in it and have their fondness for it in common.

In the first in Tessa Dare’s captivating Castles Ever After series, a mysterious fortress is the setting for an unlikely love . . .

As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.

And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.

    Ugly duckling turned swan?
    Abducted by handsome highwayman?
Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?

    No, no, and… Heh.

Now Izzy’s given up yearning for romance. She’ll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who’s never even been kissed?

    This one.

This is book 2 in the Dark Heir series, and it has a 4.58 (whoa) star average on GoodReads, a 4.56 star average on StoryGraph (whew!) and 4.7 on Amazon. I know Pacat has a lot of fans, and readers who enjoy tense, emotional, and adventurous stories will probably like this. Also, I love the cover illustrations. Have you read this one?

  • The Librarian of Crooked Lane

The Librarian of Crooked Lane by C.J. Archer

The Librarian of Crooked Lane by C.J. Archer is $2.49 and Amazon and BN, and is showing as $4.99 at Kobo, but I hope it matches. This is the first book in The Glass Library series, and it has a 4.4 on Amazon and a 3.86 star average on Goodreads. Folks on StoryGraph describe it as mysterious, adventurous and lighthearted. I am really curious if any of y’all have read this, as the cover completely grabbed me, and of course when I went to download a sample, I was told past me had already bought it? Do I remember doing so? No, I do not.

A librarian with a mysterious past, a war hero with a secret, and the heist of a magic painting. THE LIBRARIAN OF CROOKED LANE is an intriguing new fantasy from C.J. Archer, the USA Today bestselling author of the Glass and Steele series.

Librarian Sylvia Ashe knows nothing about her past, having grown up without a father and a mother who refused to discuss him. When she stumbles upon a diary that suggests she’s descended from magicians, she’s skeptical. After all, magicians are special, and she’s just an ordinary girl who loves books. She seeks the truth from a member of the most prominent family of magicians, but she quickly learns that finding the truth won’t be easy, especially when he turns out to be as artless as her, and more compelling and dangerous than books.

War hero Gabe is gifted with wealth, a loving family, and an incredible amount of luck that saw him survive four harrowing years of a brutal war without injury. But not all injuries are visible. Burying himself in his work as a consultant for Scotland Yard, Gabe is going through the motions as he investigates the theft of a magician-made painting. But his life changes when he unwittingly gets Sylvia dismissed from her job and places her in danger.

After securing her new employment in a library housing the world’s greatest collection of books about magic, Gabe and Sylvia’s lives become intwined as they work together to find both the painting and the truth about Sylvia’s past before powerful people can stop them.

But sometimes the past is better left buried…
