Jack Grealish and Noni Madueke have been included in Lee Carsley’s first England squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
The Manchester City winger had been named in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024 and featured in the pre-tournament friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, only to be cut from the final party that went on to reach the final in Germany.
Chelsea forward Madueke has yet to be capped at senior level but has started the season impressively and scored his first hat-trick for the club in Sunday’s Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Carsley was placed in interim charge of the national team for England’s Nations League fixtures “with a view to remaining in the position throughout autumn”.
England face Republic of Ireland on Saturday, September 6 before taking on Finland on the following Tuesday.
Southgate stepped down as England manager in July following England’s European Championship final defeat to Spain, having spent eight years in the job.
The Athletic reported Eddie Howe and Graham Potter are the two leading candidates to succeed Southgate.
Carsley worked in coaching roles at Coventry City, Sheffield United and Manchester City since his retirement before moving to the England Under-21s job in July 2021.
He went on to guide the side to a first Under 21 European Championship crown since 1984 in July of last year.
