The Milwaukee Brewers hired Billy Eppler, formerly the New York Mets’ general manager, to a special advisor position within the front office, league sources confirmed. SNY first reported the move.
This is Eppler’s first job in a Major League Baseball front office since the league suspended him in February 2024 for improper use of the injured list, including the “deliberate fabrication of injuries.” Eppler’s suspension ended after the 2024 World Series.
Eppler resigned from the Mets in October 2023 amid MLB’s investigation. He spent the previous two seasons as the Mets’ GM. Eppler’s exit from the Mets came just days after David Stearns took over as president of baseball operations.
In Eppler’s first year with the Mets, the club won 101 games. But the Mets disappointed on a profound level in 2023; despite a record-setting payroll, New York failed to make the playoffs and traded away key players such as Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander around the trade deadline.
Before serving as the Mets’ GM, Eppler worked as GM of the Los Angeles Angels from 2015 to 2020 and as assistant GM and director of pro scouting for the New York Yankees from 2005 to 2015.
With the Brewers, Eppler will work as a special advisor for scouting and baseball operations under a front office led by GM Matt Arnold.
