The Philadelphia Eagles announced a four-year, $68 million extension with $39.4 million guaranteed for center Cam Jurgens Monday morning. The deal, which keeps Jurgens in Philadelphia through the 2029 season, makes him the second-highest paid center in the league by total value behind Kansas City’s Creed Humphrey.
Drafted 51st overall by the Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft, Jurgens was hand-picked to be the successor to six-time All-Pro center Jason Kelce. Kelce described Jurgens as his favorite player in the draft and added that he helped the Eagles scout Jurgens during the pre-draft process.
Not seeing his first NFL start until the 2023 season, Jurgens began his career at right guard before taking over as the team’s starting center in 2024 upon Kelce’s retirement. He started 16 games in the regular season and each game of the Eagles’ eventual Super Bowl run, earning himself his first Pro Bowl berth.
As Kelce’s successor at center, Jurgens was tasked with taking over his role as point on the “Brotherly Shove.” According to CBS Sports, Philadelphia converted 39 of their 48 “tush push” attempts for first downs or touchdowns during the 2024 season.
Eagles lock in another long-term piece
The Eagles spent the initial phase of their offseason performing maintenance on their books to make room for long-term extensions such as these. Jurgens has long been considered part of the team’s long-term plans. Jurgens’ extension formalizes what, so far, has been a best-case scenario transitioning from the old guard to the new.
The Eagles now have four of their starting five linemen on long-term extensions. Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson both signed three-year extensions last year. Lane Johnson tacked on another year earlier this offseason and will be under contract through 2027. The Eagles have cultivated one of the NFL’s best offensive lines.
