Happiness for Beginners
Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center is $1.99! Center’s books have been mentioned and recommended on the site before. This is one of her earlier works and apparently has been made into a Netflix adaptation. Have you read or watched this one?
Helen Carpenter has always lived her life as far from the edge as possible. Finding herself newly divorced and a little lost, Helen decides she needs a reset. So when her annoying younger brother convinces her to sign up for a hardcore wilderness survival course, she hopes the adventure will be exactly what she needs.
Instead, it’s a disaster. It’s nothing like she expected. She doesn’t expect the surprise summer blizzard, for example-or the blisters, or the mean pack of sorority girls. And she especially doesn’t expect that her annoying brother’s even-more-annoying best friend, Jake , would show up for the exact same course-and distract her, derail her, and…kiss her.
But it turns out sometimes disaster can teach you exactly the things you need to learn. Like how to keep going, even when you think you can’t. How being scared can make you brave. And how sometimes getting really, really lost is your only hope of getting found.

Scythe & Sparrow
Scythe & Sparrow by Brynne Weaver is $1.99! This is book three in the Ruinous Love Trilogy. I believe these can be read as standalones, but correct me if I’m wrong. This is a darker romance with some violent and/or graphic content – check trigger warnings!
God, I want to kiss her. I want to feel the heat of her lips against mine. Would she want that? Would she melt against me if she did? Or would the tension I feel between us snap and release something feral inside her? Inside me?
From the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird and Leather & Lark comes the final book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy—a friends-with-benefits dark romantic comedy packed with murder, mayhem, and spice.
Doctor Fionn Kane is running from a broken heart, one he hopes to mend in small-town Nebraska, far away from his almost-fiancé and his derailed surgical career. It’s a simpler head down, hard work, and absolutely no romantic relationships. He wants none of the circus he left behind in Boston.
But then the real circus finds him.
Motorcycle performer Rose Evans has spent a decade on the road with the Silveria Circus, and it suits her just fine, especially when she has the urge to indulge in a little murder when she’s not in the spotlight. But when a kill goes awry and she ends up with an injured leg, Rose finds herself stuck in Nebraska, at the home of the adorably nerdy town doctor.
The problem is, not every broken heart can be sewn back together.
. . . And the longer you stay in one place, the more likely your ghosts are to catch up.

The Ladies Rewrite the Rules
The Ladies Rewrite the Rules by Suzanne Allain is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! Elyse read this one and gave it a D, though others in the comments had a different experience. Here’s what Elyse said:
The lack of character growth and conflict made this one a slog for me; I kept putting the book down and then picking it back up hoping for something to happen.
From the author of Mr. Malcolm’s List comes a delightful romantic comedy set in Regency England about a widow who takes high society by storm.
Diana Boyle, a wealthy young widow, has no desire to ever marry again. Particularly not to someone who merely wants her for her fortune.
So when she discovers that she’s listed in a directory of rich, single women she is furious, and rightly so. She confronts Maxwell Dean, the man who published the Bachelor’s Directory , and is horrified to find he is far more attractive than his actions have led her to expect. However, Diana is unmoved by Max’s explanation that he authored the list to assist younger sons like himself who cannot afford to marry unless it’s to a woman of means.
She gathers the ladies in the directory together to inform them of its existence, so they may circumvent fortune hunters’ efforts to trick them into marriage. Though outraged, the women decide to embrace their unique position of power and reverse the usual gender roles by making the men dance to their tune. And together… the ladies rewrite the rules.

For the Wolf
For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is a dark romantic fantasy that was featured in Hide Your Wallet and was highly anticipated by me and Aarya. I remember starting it but finding it a little slow.
The first daughter is for the Throne.
The second daughter is for the Wolf. For fans of Uprooted and The Bear and the Nightingale comes a dark fantasy novel about a young woman who must be sacrificed to the legendary Wolf of the Wood to save her kingdom. But not all legends are true, and the Wolf isn’t the only danger lurking in the Wilderwood.
As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose-to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he’ll return the world’s captured gods.
Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can’t control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can’t hurt those she loves. Again.
But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn’t learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood-and her world-whole.
