Crystal Palace agree loan deal to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign defender Trevoh Chalobah on loan.

The centre-back will undergo a medical before joining the Selhurst Park club for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

The deal is a straight loan, with no obligation to buy, although Palace have paid an undisclosed fee to secure the defender’s services.

The 25-year-old becomes Palace’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Ismaila Sarr, Chadi Riad, Daichi Kamada and Jemiah Umolu.

He will provide added defensive cover for Oliver Glasner after Joachim Andersen left to join Fulham earlier this month.

Chalobah, who signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge in November 2022, leaves Chelsea on a temporary basis having been informed he was not in head coach Enzo Maresca’s plans for the new season.

The Athletic reported earlier this summer that the Chelsea academy graduate has been training away from the first team.

Chalobah has fallen out of favour in recent seasons behind first-choice centre-backs Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. Wesley Fofana is fit and available after missing last term through injury while Tosin Adarabioyo joined the club from Fulham earlier this summer.

He joined Chelsea as a nine-year old before progressing through the club’s academy. He made his first-team debut under former manager Thomas Tuchel, making 17 appearances with three goals during a breakout season in the 2021-22.

He has played 80 times for the club since then, scoring five goals in all competitions.

He represented England at every age group from under-16 to under-21 but is yet to win a cap for the senior team.
