Carlos Miguel set for Nottingham Forest medical ahead of £3.4m transfer

Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel will undergo a medical this weekend ahead of a proposed move to Nottingham Forest.

Forest have agreed a deal worth around €4million (£3.4m; $4.3m) with Corinthians for the 25-year-old, who is set to become their third summer signing.

He joins midfielder Elliot Anderson, who signed from Newcastle United earlier this week, and 18-year-old right-back Eric da Silva Moreira, who moved from St Pauli.

Forest have been actively looking to overhaul their goalkeeping department this summer, after last year’s signings Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos failed to make an impact at the City Ground.

Forest have still not replaced Samba – can they finally do so this summer?

Vlachodimos has already left, moving to Newcastle at the same time as Anderson went the other way, while Forest will consider offers for Turner, who has been with the United States at the Copa America.

Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels stabilised things when he arrived in January, but Carlos Miguel will add competition between the sticks for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side for the coming season.

Carlos Miguel should become Forest’s second transfer from Corinthians in a year, after they signed central defender Murillo on a five-year deal in August 2023. The club also signed midfielder Danilo from fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras in January 2023.

Carlos Miguel has made just 33 senior appearances across his career, but kept clean sheets in each of his three Copa Sudamericana appearances for Corinthians this year — against Nacional Asuncion, Argentinos Juniors and Racing Club Montevideo.

At 6ft 8, the Brazilian is likely to be the tallest player in the Premier League for the 2024-25 season.
