Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti out for several weeks with ‘minor knee injury’

Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti will be out for several weeks with a knee injury, Jonas Eidevall has confirmed.

Walti, 30, started the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on March 15 but was substituted in the 72nd minute being replaced by Kyra Cooney-Cross.

The Switzerland captain subsequently missed the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, with her manager unsure if she will return before the end of the season.

Eidevall said: “She suffered a minor knee injury in training this week so she will be out for several weeks. What several weeks means in relation to the season, I don’t know yet.

“We need to let this go a couple of weeks then we will have a much better picture and we can see if she will be available for the last games of the season. But it is a minor knee injury and that is important to say.”

Walti has been a key member of Arsenal’s squad this season, appearing in 15 of the north London’s side 17 Women’s Super League games this season, providing three assists.

Walti, who joined Arsenal from Turbine Potsdam in 2018, signed a new contract with the club in May 2023.

Arsenal are already without striker Vivianne Miedema who will also miss several weeks of action with a knee injury.

Eidevall’s side are next in action against Chelsea in the FA Women’s League Cup Final on Sunday at Molineux.
