Brighton's Tariq Lamptey missed Manchester City game after training injury

Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey missed the draw with Manchester City after picking up an ankle injury on the eve of the game.

The Ghana international was expected to return from suspension for Brighton’s Premier League trip to Manchester on Saturday but was not part of the matchday squad.

Lamptey has made 18 appearances in all competitions this term, including 13 in the Premier League.

He has operated at both his natural right-back position as well as on the opposite flank. He has three goals and has added two assists.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler refused to go into too much detail after the game but confirmed the 24-year-old picked up an issue in training prior to the match.

Solly March also missed Saturday’s contest but Hurzeler is more positive in his outlook for him.

“Tariq has a bigger issue (than March),” Hurzeler told reporters. “He had a bad moment in the training session, and I can’t say exactly how long he will be out.

“Solly is just a small issue. I think he will be back after the international break.”

Brighton are already missing Ferdi Kadioglu and Igor Julio through injury, the pair having both featured at full-back this season. Jack Hinshelwood was deployed at right-back on Saturday in Lamptey’s absence.

Hurzeler’s side twice pegged City back in a 2-2 draw to leave the Etihad Stadium with a share of the points.

The result left them seventh in the Premier League table, one point back from fifth position which is likely to yield Champions League qualification this season.
