NEW YORK — Thousands of people were within earshot of Jalen Brunson, on the heels of perhaps his team’s most important win during his time with the New York Knicks. All were jubilant. Some were shocked. Others unhinged. All wearing blue and orange.

Millions more stared at Brunson through a television screen. New York’s star guard was in a familiar position: standing on the court after a win, a national television reporter to his left and a cameraman in front of him, just feet away.

Brunson, however, was preoccupied. His attention wasn’t where it needed to be. With Brunson’s interview getting ready to start, he looked over to his right and furiously waved his arms.

“I was actually telling everyone to get off the court,” Brunson said. “It’s nothing to celebrate.”
