Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene has been granted permission to undergo a medical at Ipswich Town after a deal was agreed between the clubs for a permanent transfer.
The 22-year-old re-joined Villa in the summer from Hull City but has started just twice in the Premier League this season.
Ipswich had attempted to sign Philogene in the summer and agreed an £18million deal with Hull, with personal terms in place on a five-year contract.
However, Villa then activated a matching rights clause they negotiated in the deal that saw him sold to Hull in 2023. The figure was also reduced by 30 per cent because of a sell-on clause that was also placed in the terms that took the winger to the Championship club.
Philogene has played 15 times in all competitions for Villa this season but has largely been restricted to substitute appearances.
Ipswich signed three wingers in the summer, making Omari Hutchinson’s loan switch from Chelsea permanent for a club record fee of £20m, bringing in Jack Clarke from Sunderland for an initial £15m and signing Chiedozie Ogbene from Luton for £8m. However, Ogbene suffered an Achilles tear in October and is set to miss the remainder of the season.
Philogene was part of Villa’s academy and broke into the first team in 2021. Loan moves to Stoke City and Cardiff City followed before he joined Hull on a permanent deal last summer.
He earned admirers with 12 goals in 32 games for Hull as they finished seventh in the Championship last season, three points adrift of the play-offs.
Ipswich are 18th in the Premier League, behind 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers on goal difference.
