Manchester United's Mason Mount out for 4-5 weeks with hamstring injury

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is set to be sidelined for four to five weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old was replaced at half-time of Saturday’s Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion as a precaution after reporting an injury to United’s staff.

The club have now confirmed that Mount has been ruled out of Sunday’s meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford and he is not expected to be available until at least after the September international break.

Mount joined United in an initial £55million move from Chelsea in July 2023 but only made 20 appearances last season due to a string of injuries.

The England international suffered a hamstring issue in United’s second league outing of last season, a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last August.

Mount was later sidelined for four months following a calf injury in November, and only made a further eight appearances upon his return as he struggled for fitness.

He was left out of England’s squad for Euro 2024 by then-manager Gareth Southgate but had worked hard on his physical condition over the summer in an effort to make a positive start to the new campaign.

He impressed in the opening night win over Fulham at Old Trafford and was influential at the Amex Stadium last weekend before his withdrawal at the interval.

His absence is another injury concern for Ten Hag, who was already without five senior players — Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof — for the game against Liverpool.
