Barbadian singer, Rihanna has donated to Sierra Leone a whopping sum of $2m on Friday after a demanding call for international aid following Monday’s mudslide in Freetown.

By way of financial support, the Barbadian icon has offered an overwhelming sum of money to the Sierra Leone’s mudslides victims.

“It is a humanitarian gesture, an act of solidarity and support for a brotherly affected people,” the Barbadian songstress said.

“My thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone. My initiative Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) is donating $2m to Sierra Leone to assist and house victims of the mudslide in Freetown that has rendered people homeless. The fund is intended to provide shelter, food, clothing and medicines.” – Rihanna added.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to the United States, Bockarie Stevens, thanked Rihanna for the nice gesture and appealed on to the general public for support.

Last three weeks, Rihanna teamed up with bike sharing company Ofo to provide girls in Malawi with bikes to help them get to school.

Sierra Leone is facing significant health challenges after this week’s devastating mudslides claimed at least 467 lives, a government health official said Friday, with the number of dead expected to rise.
About 20,000 people have been displaced by the mudslides, including 5,000 children, presidential spokesman Abdulai Bayraytay said.

The death toll includes those killed in mudslides on the outskirts of the West African nation’s capital, Freetown, and fatalities from flash floods in other provinces, Deputy Health Minister Madina Rahman told CNN.
The country also must battle cholera and malaria, Rahman said, in the wake of one of the deadliest natural disasters to hit Africa in recent years.
